Chris’ Quilt
This quilt was on the cover of one of the many quilting magazines that arrived in my mailbox each month. My husband, Chris, has always been super supportive of the many things I have tried over the years. Then this particular magazine showed up and Chris happened to be standing behind me as I was flipping through the pages, dreaming of a time when I might be brave enough to tackle something as big and as gorgeous as what was on those pages. When I landed on this page Chris commented how much he liked this quilt. He had never done that before. I took that as a sign that I was supposed to make this quilt for him.
So I began looking online for the fabrics. I managed to find them all and the amounts I needed. I was pretty excited. The quilt top went together pretty easy, but what next? I had a sit down quilting machine but I hadn’t gotten comfortable using it. I really wanted to complete the whole quilt myself from start to finish. But I didn’t know how to finish it.
I happened to be doing a shop hop that summer, and visited a small local quilt shop that I had seen on the shop hop list. They had a longarm machine! While there I learned that they offered a one on one class to learn how the machine works, then you can rent time on the machine to finish your own project. Well I wanted to do that! I made an appointment and went back four days later and took that class and quilted that quilt!
I managed to get the binding on and have it complete in time to give my husband for his birthday.
